Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a humanities field from US schools (English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Publishing, etc.).
- 1+ years of teaching experience in English and/or experience working in a college-level Writing Center.
- Demonstrated academic excellence (e.g., 3.5+ GPA).
- Strong verbal skills and mastery of the English language.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and G-Suites.
- Access to a reliable internet connection and a workspace with minimal noise/distraction.
- Commitment to scheduled hours (Tuesdays-Thursdays 1:30 pm - 9:30 pm CST and Saturdays-Sundays 9:30 am - 5:30 pm CST).
- Master’s degree or higher preferred.
- Experience teaching at the college or community college level preferred.
Responsibilities
- Instruct small groups of students in their English core skills to promote long-term understanding of topics and top scores in their college readiness exams (ACT & SAT).
- Track students’ progress as they move through Vanguard’s unique multi-phase curriculum.
- Engage students in individualized growth and improvement opportunities.
- Maintain and update student lesson schedules and hold students accountable for assignments.
- Model professionalism through timely student communication.
- Spearhead the development and creative execution of ever-evolving lesson plans and curriculum.
- Guide middle and high school students with empathy through the college application process.
