Requirements
- 10+ years of experience working in the engineering profession.
- 3+ years of experience in a staff engineering role.
- Experience working in a principal engineering or architect role.
- Experience leading multiple teams (20+ Engineers).
- Expert-level knowledge of software design and architecture.
- Proven experience writing technical specifications.
- Comfortable interacting with customers regularly to understand user needs.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
- Ability to influence engineering culture inside and outside the organization.
- Experience in a SaaS environment using shared code/infrastructure (preferred).
- Experience architecting cloud-native solutions (preferred).
- Expert-level knowledge of one or more web frameworks (preferred).
- Experience with business analysis and requirements gathering (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Own a strategic area within R&D from a technical perspective to ensure business success.
- Define overall architecture, technical stack decisions, and system health while aligning with high-level strategy.
- Develop engineering roadmaps in collaboration with leaders and break down work into actionable tasks.
- Supervise staff and senior staff engineers to ensure technical direction is maintained across managed domains.
- Partner with the Director of Engineering to align business strategy with technical execution.
- Author and review technical documentation and mentor engineers on complex problem solving.
- Manage SaaS metrics including COGs, reliability, and scalability relative to business value.
- Contribute to engineering thought leadership via blog posts and conference talks.
- Participate in hiring activities, including interviewing and assignment reviews.
- Maintain service reliability through on-call rotations.
