Requirements

  • PhD in physics, computer science, data science, information systems, or related field.
  • Proven track record of in-depth research on scientific AI models, symbolic models, machine learning, or deep learning for scientific discovery.
  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art (SOTA) models and best practices in model development.
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML concepts and data infrastructure.
  • Experience working in cross-functional, remote, startup-style teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to translate technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and iterative problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, and test novel, research‑specific model architectures integrating NLP, symbolic reasoning, and academic literature.
  • Prototype and build custom tokenizers for LaTeX symbols and physical units.
  • Explore alternatives to transformers and develop reinforcement-learning loops for independent model thought experiments.
  • Design and automate data ingestion pipelines for scientific literature, metadata, and experimental data.
  • Establish custom benchmarks to assess mathematical reasoning, physical concept understanding, and reliability.
  • Run and monitor model training jobs while optimizing costs.
  • Develop frameworks to evaluate model learning and implement safety guard-rails to flag poor quality output.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure product feasibility and communicate technical trade-offs to stakeholders.
