Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of recent hands-on physician coding experience in Neurosurgery.
- Successful completion of an AHIMA or AAPC-certified program with an active, in-good-standing professional credential (e.g., CCS-P, CPC). CPC-A is not accepted.
- High School diploma required; Associate or BS degree preferred.
- Expertise in Neurosurgery surgical and E&M, including critical care and POS 11/21/22.
- Experience with teaching physician scenarios, split/shared services, and incident-to billing.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes.
- Proficiency in CPT coding and guidelines, ICD-10-CM coding, modifiers, and surgical techniques.
- Knowledge of Medicare (CMS/MAC) and Medicaid billing policies for professional services.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, and electronic healthcare record and billing systems.
Responsibilities
- Review and accurately code profee Neurosurgery cases to maximize reimbursement in a timely manner.
- Review and accurately code E/M visits, office procedures, and surgeries.
- Work independently and research coding scenarios.
- Meet daily production goals and a 95% quality accuracy rate.
- Attend conference calls for feedback and communicate with leadership regarding coding or documentation trends.
- Stay current on all specialty-specific coding guidelines and maintain professional credentials.
- Participate in coding department and education meetings.
