Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- 8+ years of progressive legal experience in a law firm, in-house, or both.
- Minimum 3 years of in-house experience supporting a software, technology, consumer technology, digital product, or SaaS business.
- Demonstrated experience independently drafting and negotiating complex commercial, technology, or licensing agreements.
- Experience serving as a primary legal advisor to business stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex legal matters simultaneously.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Comfortable operating as a hands-on contributor in a lean team.
- Ability to travel biannually or quarterly to a corporate office or Basecamp.
Responsibilities
- Partner with business leaders to structure, negotiate, and execute complex commercial, vendor, software, marketing, and licensing agreements.
- Advise stakeholders on privacy, data use, subscription, and consumer protection regulatory requirements.
- Support litigation efforts, discovery, investigations, and diligence projects.
- Provide actionable legal guidance to Product, Engineering, CX, and Marketing teams to support responsible product development.
- Identify opportunities to improve legal workflows, templates, and processes, leveraging AI tools where appropriate.
- Coordinate with outside counsel when specialized expertise is required.
