Requirements

  • Proven experience managing teams of 5–10 engineers in data platforms, distributed systems, or large-scale backend infrastructure environments.
  • Strong technical background as a former software or data engineer, with the ability to understand cloud architectures, infrastructure-as-code, and data pipelines.
  • Experience building and operating large-scale data systems using technologies such as Apache Flink, Kafka, Databricks, Spark, or similar tools.
  • Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure and modern data stack components including AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, and CI/CD systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop engineers through coaching, feedback, and performance management leading to career progression and retention.
  • Strong execution and planning skills, with the ability to identify delivery risks early and maintain predictable project timelines.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex technical concepts for executives, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, cross-functional environments with Product and Engineering leadership.
  • Strong interest in AI-assisted engineering workflows and experience using tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 5–10 data and platform engineers working across streaming, lakehouse, and infrastructure domains.
  • Serve as a servant leader by removing blockers, protecting the team from organizational noise, and enabling high-quality execution.
  • Own quarterly planning and sprint execution, translating OKRs into clear milestones, ownership, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
  • Drive engineering excellence through best practices including design reviews, ADRs, automated testing, and data quality standards.
  • Oversee incident response and on-call processes to ensure operational stability and minimize disruption to engineering delivery.
  • Partner with Staff Engineers to support technical direction while ensuring clarity, alignment, and execution discipline across the team.
  • Mentor engineers through structured coaching, feedback, and career development plans, including promotion readiness support.
  • Hire and grow top engineering talent while fostering diversity, inclusion, and high-performance team culture.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, experimentation, and continuous improvement across engineering workflows and system design.
  • Champion AI adoption in engineering practices, encouraging effective use of AI tools for development, debugging, documentation, and review processes.
