Requirements
- Completion of at least the first year of an undergraduate degree in communications, public relations, journalism, political science, or a related field.
- At least one semester or equivalent internship or work experience in journalism, public relations, or communications.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills.
- Avid news reader with familiarity with current media trends and online platforms.
- Familiarity with best practices in communications and public relations.
- Internship must be tied to a formal education program via coursework or academic credit.
- Must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to day-to-day communications functions including writing press releases, talking points, social media posts, blogs, and media advisories.
- Build media expertise by researching and curating lists of reporters, editors, and producers.
- Increase coverage of ACLU campaigns and projects by crafting and sending media pitches.
- Monitor news trends and track press clips.
- Conduct research to inform multi-faceted communications plans and strategies.
