Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Formal education in Health Information Management or a related field.
- Active credential: CCS, RHIT, or RHIA.
- Minimum of three (3) years performing inpatient coding in an acute hospital setting.
- Proficiency in computer skills relating to coding software and EHR systems.
- Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, IPPS coding, APR-DRG, MS-DRG.
- Knowledge of coding audits, denials management, and documentation improvement.
- Educated in medical terminology, disease process, anatomy and physiology, and surgical procedures.
- Must pass an inpatient coding assessment prior to hiring.
Responsibilities
- Utilizes computerized encoder and other systems related to completing the coding process.
- Applies coding processes across all facilities in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Prioritize and organize coding work activities to meet deadlines and organizational goals.
- Maintain quality targets and production standards according to organization policies.
- Accurately abstracting inpatient accounts for hospital reporting.
- Adheres to official coding guidelines and standards of Ethical Coding.
- Resolve coding and documentation issues related to reimbursement and compliance.
- Identify physician query opportunities to clarify documentation.
- Monitor and report documentation discrepancies.
