Requirements
- Senior-level backend engineering experience with ownership of complex, end-to-end technical initiatives in production systems
- Strong expertise in Python and Django, or equivalent backend experience with proven ability to transition into Python-based systems
- Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, indexing, and migration strategies
- Experience working with distributed systems, including asynchronous processing, queues, and event-driven architectures
- Proven track record of working in large, evolving, or legacy codebases with modernization and optimization initiatives
- Strong production mindset with experience in incident response, on-call support, and system reliability ownership
- Demonstrated technical leadership, including driving architecture decisions and mentoring other engineers
- Strong communication skills, with experience writing design documents, RFCs, or technical specifications
- Ability to collaborate effectively with product and cross-functional stakeholders in fast-paced environments
- Experience influencing engineering standards and improving development practices across teams
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve core backend systems supporting freight brokerage operations, including pricing, quoting, booking, compliance, and logistics workflows
- Lead the design and delivery of technical initiatives across multiple Python/Django services, from architecture to rollout and deprecation
- Drive platform reliability and performance improvements, including database optimization, caching strategies, and system upgrades
- Design and maintain scalable PostgreSQL schemas, optimize queries, and resolve performance bottlenecks in production environments
- Build and enhance distributed system components, including asynchronous processing, queues, and cross-service integrations
- Ship high-impact product and revenue-driven features aligned with business needs such as pricing logic and compliance workflows
- Define and promote engineering best practices, including documentation standards, testing strategies, and observability patterns
- Participate in incident response and production support, ensuring fast resolution and root cause analysis of critical issues
- Collaborate with product managers to refine requirements, define scope, and propose technical solutions
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and collaborative problem-solving
