Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years of experience as a Site Safety and Health Officer on construction or environmental remediation projects.
  • At least 3 years of experience supporting projects involving environmental contamination, hazardous materials, or remediation.
  • Strong knowledge of USACE Safety and Health Requirements Manual EM 385-1-1 and ability to meet Class I SSHO qualifications.
  • Current 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification with active 8-hour refresher.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Ability to travel extensively (up to 70% of the time) for field assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and maintain project-specific health and safety documentation including Accident Prevention Plans (APPs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Serve as the primary onsite health and safety point of contact for field personnel, subcontractors, and client representatives.
  • Conduct daily onsite safety briefings and ensure understanding of protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Monitor project activities to ensure compliance with OSHA and USACE EM 385-1-1 requirements.
  • Maintain inspection reports, incident records, and compliance tracking documentation.
  • Perform safety audits and evaluations across remediation, demolition, and excavation activities.
  • Implement and enforce emergency response procedures.
  • Collaborate with project managers and corporate safety leadership.
  • Lead internal and client-facing meetings regarding safety planning and compliance.
