Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of enterprise network engineering experience, including routers, switches, load balancers, and network security devices.
  • Strong experience with TCP/IP networking, including OSPF and BGP routing protocols and traffic engineering concepts.
  • Experience supporting HPC networking environments, including InfiniBand and Ethernet-based architectures.
  • Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, Linux system administration, and container orchestration environments.
  • Experience with network monitoring, logging tools, and performance analysis systems.
  • Familiarity with multi-site WAN environments and hybrid connectivity solutions.
  • Understanding of OSI model principles and enterprise network design best practices.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to document, present, and explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work in collaborative, research-driven environments and adapt to evolving technical requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage high-performance research network infrastructure supporting HPC, cloud, and research data platforms.
  • Optimize network performance, scalability, reliability, and security across high-speed research networks and related services.
  • Support and enhance research technology services including Kubernetes environments, research storage systems, and distributed compute platforms.
  • Conduct capacity planning, performance monitoring, and proactive troubleshooting for complex network environments.
  • Extend and maintain multi-site research network connectivity across campus and external research locations.
  • Develop scalable tools, processes, and automation to support network operations and research computing services.
  • Collaborate with IT infrastructure teams to align research networking with enterprise standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Support secure and efficient operation of HPC and research systems, including Linux-based environments and storage integration.
  • Participate in design and optimization of network architecture for advanced research workloads.
  • Provide incident resolution and technical support for network and infrastructure issues impacting research services.
