Requirements
- 2+ years of classroom ASL teaching experience (preferably high school or ASL 1 level)
- Strong fluency in ASL (10 years or more)
- Understanding of Deaf culture
- Proficiency in written English communication for student and parent support
- Ability to review and assess student videos using provided rubrics
- Confidence using pre-made materials and lesson plans
- Professional experience supporting students in secondary education within the last 5 years
- Strong written communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
- Tech-savvy with an ability to learn new platforms quickly (gradebooks, Google Classroom, curriculum platforms, Google Suite)
- Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) responsible use of AI tools to increase efficiency
- Teaching certification in ASL, World Languages, or Deaf Education (preferred)
- Familiarity with ACTFL standards or proficiency-based ASL instruction (preferred)
- Experience with online or hybrid instruction (preferred)
- Comfort with tools like Google Docs, Zoom, and LMS platforms (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Become familiar with the structured student learning path, including lesson videos, guided practice worksheets, and ASL assessments
- Support students during key checkpoints by grading expressive and receptive assignments using provided rubrics
- Reference lesson content in feedback and guide students toward appropriate practice materials
- Evaluate student video submissions, primarily expressive video assignments and comprehension tasks
- Deliver clear, supportive, and accurate written feedback that helps students reflect, revise, and grow in their ASL skills
- Host weekly virtual group tutoring to clarify curriculum concepts and offer additional support
- Maintain a caseload of students for academic advising, including quarterly check-ins and targeted support plans
- Identify struggling students and provide tiered support solutions with Academic Counselors and Student Support Specialists
- Act as the primary point of contact for parents and students in academic matters in your subject area
- Participate in school initiatives and contribute to school-wide academic policies
- Lead or contribute to an extracurricular club or activity
- Uphold and contribute to the school's positive culture and values
