Principal Actuary

5-7+ years of actuarial experience with meaningful exposure to small-group, level-funded, and/or medical stop loss insurance Credentialed actuary (ASA or FSA) or actively pursuing fellowship Experience in insurance pricing, including building and maintaining rate manuals, pricing tools, etc. Highly analytical and comfortable working directly with data Proficient in SQL, Excel, and modern analytics tools Experienced with at least one data science or modeling language (e.g., Python, R, SAS) Understand the actuarial and reporting needs of external partners Work effectively across functions and can translate actuarial concepts for non-actuarial stakeholders Bring a builder’s mindset Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, ambiguous startup environment Communicate clearly and thoughtfully Care deeply about Sana’s mission Show humility, curiosity, and follow-through

Own and evolve key components of Sana’s pricing, reserving, underwriting, and rate manual Design, build, and maintain actuarial models and tools Partner with Product, Data, and Engineering on pricing applications, data pipelines, and analytics tools Develop, document, and update pricing assumptions and actuarial factors Support new business and renewal quoting Contribute to plan design, rating methodologies, and underwriting rules Support reinsurance strategy and execution Deliver analyses and reporting on underwriting performance, loss ratios, and emerging risks Provide actuarial input on regulatory filings and compliance-related analyses Drive continuous improvement in predictive modeling, analytics, and actuarial processes Serve as a trusted actuarial partner across Revenue, Finance, Care Team, Operations, and Product Mentor and support other actuarial team members
