Code for Science & Society

Code for Science & Society (CS&S) is a US-based non-profit organization driving open collaboration in public interest technology. We provide fiscal sponsorship and support for sustainable open-source, open-data, and open-science projects, empowering communities historically excluded from technology and science. Our work focuses on advancing data's power to improve social and economic lives globally. We partner with organizations like Measurement Lab (M-Lab) on initiatives such as the Internet Quality Barometer, redefining Internet quality metrics beyond speed. CS&S leverages a robust tech stack including Cloudflare Hosting, nginx, and various open-source tools. Our engineering culture values collaboration, remote work flexibility (with a 4-day work week for some teams!), and contributions to the open-source community. We are a small but impactful team, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. We are actively engaged in advancing digital equity and internet freedom, contributing to research, policy discussions, and community building in the internet measurement ecosystem. While our core team is small (1-10 employees), our impact is amplified by our diverse network of partners and collaborators.
