Requirements

  • Have 10+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
  • Bring strong backend development skills in Kotlin and/or Python, including designing reliable services and APIs.
  • Have hands-on Android device fleet experience, including Android application or system development, AOSP, APK deployment, ADB, device telemetry, remote control, and provisioning.
  • Demonstrate deep AWS expertise, particularly AWS IoT Core, MQTT, Lambda, API Gateway, and Cognito.
  • Have experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
  • Have experience developing AI agent systems, including LLM tool use through MCP or equivalent technologies, agent guardrails, and evaluation processes.
  • Have prior experience as a technical or engineering lead, setting architectural direction and establishing standards.
  • Be able to collaborate closely with product and design teams and enable others without becoming a delivery bottleneck.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, or Copilot in everyday engineering workflows.
  • Demonstrate ownership and problem-solving skills, taking ambiguous challenges through to production and remaining accountable for outcomes.
  • Bring sound architectural judgment and collaborative leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Beneficial: experience with Bluetooth Low Energy configuration and mobile provisioning workflows, and familiarity with iOS, Swift, and CoreBluetooth.
  • Beneficial: knowledge of React and Node.js, digital signage or kiosk-mode Android fleets, and event-streaming technologies such as Kafka.
  • Beneficial: experience with CloudWatch, X-Ray, OpenTelemetry, or Mixpanel, and a background in healthcare or other regulated environments, including HIPAA and protected health information.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical direction, architecture, engineering standards, and release cadence across the operations portal, device configuration application, and device diagnostics platform.
  • Write and review production code using Kotlin, Python, and Node.js across React interfaces, serverless services, and Android and iOS applications.
  • Partner with product and design leaders on discovery and planning, evaluating feasibility, constraints, capacity, and delivery risks.
  • Architect and develop APIs and services for real-time device communication, remote command and control, and fleet management using AWS IoT Core, MQTT, AWS serverless services, and Terraform.
  • Lead development of AI-powered diagnostics and assistant capabilities using AWS Bedrock, tool integrations, human oversight, and evaluation frameworks.
  • Establish safe deployment practices for fleet changes, including staged rollouts, rollback procedures, device provisioning, and AI-driven device actions.
  • Maintain security practices for authentication, authorization, secrets management, and sensitive health information.
  • Improve product observability through usage metrics, error tracking, performance monitoring, and evidence-based engineering decisions.
  • Contribute to architectural reviews, technical proposals, research initiatives, and proofs of concept; mentor engineers and support technical planning, design discussions, and code reviews.
