- Required Skills
- KotlinDistributed Systems
Requirements
- Extensive experience building and operating correctness-critical distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience with event sourcing, CRDTs, or comparable replicated and offline-first data management approaches, such as synchronization engines or conflict-resolution layers.
- Strong understanding of idempotency, optimistic concurrency, event replay, projections, reconciliation, and distributed data consistency.
- Ability to reason through interrupted operations, unavailable nodes, network partitions, and concurrent changes.
- Staff-level engineering experience influencing technical direction and leading architectural decisions while remaining hands-on in development.
- Strong backend engineering skills and ability to learn specialized technologies.
- Experience mentoring engineers, reviewing technical designs, and helping teams adopt sound engineering practices.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including explaining sophisticated technical concepts.
- Preferred: backend engineering experience in payment processing or ordering systems.
- Preferred: ability to collaborate with payments and reporting teams while owning order-related components of financial transaction workflows.
- A customer-oriented mindset and willingness to engage directly with restaurant operators.
- Experience in restaurants, retail, or IT environments is advantageous but not required.
Responsibilities
- Define and evolve how order data is modeled, stored, replicated, synchronized, and reconciled.
- Design, build, and maintain event-sourced and replicated-state systems that remain reliable under retries, network partitions, concurrent updates, and partial failures.
- Strengthen offline-first architecture so restaurant ordering and point-of-sale workflows continue during connectivity interruptions.
- Develop mechanisms for idempotency, optimistic concurrency, event replay, projections, conflict resolution, and data reconciliation.
- Partner with Product, Payments, Reporting, and engineering teams responsible for point-of-sale and mobile experiences to deliver end-to-end ordering flows.
- Lead technical design discussions, review architecture and code, and establish engineering standards.
- Mentor engineers and help develop expertise in distributed systems and the platform's architectural patterns.
- Improve observability, replay, and recovery capabilities for order-state issues.
- Document architectural decisions and share technical context to make complex platform behavior easier to understand.
- Engage with restaurant operators to understand their needs and operational challenges when necessary.
