Experience: 10+ years as a software engineer, including 6+ years leading engineering teams and 2+ years managing managers or tech leads

Have 10+ years of experience as a software engineer.
Have 6+ years of experience leading engineering teams.
Have 2+ years of experience managing managers or tech leads.
Have grown an engineering team to 15+ at a VC-funded startup and hired most of the team.
Have built lightweight hiring processes, levels, performance reviews, and salary bands from scratch.
Have shipped AI features to production, including retrieval, RAG, or agentic workflows.
Have built and shipped with Claude Code and Cursor in real production work.
Have been a senior or principal engineer before moving into management and remain hands-on in design reviews, debugging, or feature development.
Have startup experience building from zero to one or scaling a team through the messy middle.
Be able to work in the European timezone (CET/CEST); EMEA-based, ideally Germany or UK.
Have product taste and the ability to give direct feedback and handle performance conversations.

Ship a meaningful feature with AI alongside the team during the first month.
Identify and remove bottlenecks in tooling, code review, testing, and work allocation.
Lead regular 1:1s focused on output, quality, and engineers’ use of AI.
Take over engineering hiring and build a process that runs without the CTO’s oversight.
Shape the growing team structure and determine which lead roles to hire or develop.
Own technical direction and how engineers test, review code, and review security changes.
Improve development processes and maintain high cycle-time performance from specification to production.
Build with the team periodically to validate that engineering practices work.
Develop managers and tech leads and prepare the organization to scale.
