Requirements
- Run discovery independently, including interviews, usability testing, and behavioral-data research.
- Move quickly from synthesis to a working prototype.
- Design human checkpoints into workflows.
- Use evidence to support design decisions, including when they differ from stakeholder expectations.
- Use AI tools daily for research, synthesis, and prototyping, and evaluate the quality of their output.
- Work directly with engineers through the build.
- Be comfortable running interviews and user testing over video.
- A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
- A public portfolio or case studies are a nice to have.
- Experience designing AI-native workflows, including human checkpoints, is a nice to have.
- Consulting, agency, or professional services experience with concurrent clients is a nice to have.
- Comfort with lightweight front-end implementation is a nice to have.
Responsibilities
- Interview people doing the work and observe their workflows over screen-share on client engagements.
- Conduct discovery with users of Ajaia’s own products.
- Synthesize findings into user needs, distinguishing them from requests and documenting the evidence.
- Create user journeys, wireframes, and prototypes that engineers can build from.
- Design human sign-off checkpoints into workflows.
- Test designs with real users before production code is written.
- Use evidence to challenge stakeholder feature lists and explain recommendations.
- Maintain design standards across Ajaia’s product suite.
- Prototype with AI tools and assess when AI-generated work needs to be rebuilt by hand.
- Hand off build-ready design work and collaborate with engineers to keep implementation aligned with design intent.
