Required Skills
Unreal engine

Requirements

  • Have 3–5 years of experience in cleanup and tracking within video game production.
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency with data-cleanup and retargeting software such as Autodesk MotionBuilder and Vicon Shogun Post.
  • Have a solid understanding of Autodesk Maya and how animation curves function in Unreal Engine or Unity.
  • Understand human anatomy, weight distribution, and realistic movement well enough to infer missing data.
  • Have advanced proficiency in traditional 3D keyframe animation, including animation curves, graph editors, Euler angles, and resolving gimbal lock.
  • Understand animation principles including weight, anticipation, staging, arcs, and secondary action.
  • Understand Forward Kinematics (FK), Inverse Kinematics (IK), and character rig behavior with external constraints.
  • Be able to visually reconstruct complex movement when camera data is missing.
  • Be able to interpret director notes and translate performance critiques into technical animation adjustments.
  • Organize high volumes of performance files and work to tight schedule constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, label, and track raw point-cloud data, correcting marker swaps and mislabeled tracking points.
  • Reconstruct missing data points caused by actor occlusions using interpolation, smoothing algorithms, or reference footage.
  • Remove jitter, spikes, and artifacts from tracking curves while preserving the nuances and weight of the performance.
  • Solve processed marker data onto 3D character rigs, accounting for proportional differences between the actor and model.
  • Correct clipping, stabilize feet, and fix posture and interaction anomalies.
  • Sync cleaned data with reference video to retain the actor's emotional intent, timing, and weight distribution.
  • Hand off clean data to character animation and cinematic layout teams in line with production deadlines.
  • Apply keyframe animation layers and adjust curves to address poses, timing, balance, contact, and interactions with virtual objects and terrain.
