Requirements
- Have 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years designing systems as a solutions architect, technical lead, or similar.
- Bring an agency, consultancy, or studio background and experience designing for multiple clients at the same time.
- Have owned architecture for client products that launched with real users.
- Have strong backend and data fundamentals, including experience designing APIs and relational data models such as Postgres.
- Have cloud architecture experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, including containers, deployments, and monitoring.
- Have hands-on integration design experience with third-party APIs, webhooks, SSO, OAuth, background queues, and failure handling.
- Have designed LLM or RAG features with evaluation for production client products.
- Be able to review code and architecture, identify when implementation departs from the design, and explain fixes to engineers.
- Be comfortable leading client-facing technical calls and explaining trade-offs to non-technical founders.
- Be able to write clear technical scopes with estimates the team can meet.
- Use AI tools daily in design, review, and writing work.
- Have excellent written and spoken English and be available for live client calls during US Eastern business hours.
- Nice to have: multi-tenant SaaS, row-level security, white-label deployments, or products with strict privacy or compliance needs.
- Nice to have: mobile architecture with React Native or Flutter; reviewing TypeScript, Node.js (NestJS or similar), React, or Next.js; Shopify; or mentoring engineers and setting team technical standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical discovery with clients and turn constraints and ideas into solution designs.
- Design system architecture for web, mobile, and AI products, including services, data models, hosting, and component interactions.
- Write technical proposals and scopes of work covering modules, user flows, acceptance criteria, edge cases, and estimates.
- Design third-party integrations, including retries, queues, webhooks, monitoring, and provider replacement options.
- Plan multi-tenant and white-label setups with data isolation and access control.
- Build security and privacy considerations into designs, including encryption, audit logs, consent, and data residency.
- Design AI and LLM features, including model choice, RAG, guardrails, and production evaluations.
- Review code, pull requests, and technical approaches; identify deviations from the design and explain needed changes.
- Guide and unblock engineers, set technical standards, and own technical quality through delivery and handover.
- Maintain architecture documentation and work with sales and project managers on scope, timelines, and risk.
