Requirements
- Have at least five years of professional software engineering experience designing, developing, and operating production-grade applications.
- Know data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, software design principles, and scalable application architecture.
- Have backend application and API experience with frameworks such as Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, FastAPI, Laravel, or Node.js.
- Understand relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL and MySQL, including schema design, query optimization, and performance trade-offs.
- Have experience diagnosing production performance issues involving CPU, memory, I/O, latency, and throughput.
- Have experience building authentication, identity, or regulated systems requiring security, auditability, and data protection; knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, MFA, authorization models, and secure PII handling is important.
- Have experience with Kubernetes, containerized applications, and production service operations.
- Be familiar with background job frameworks such as Oban, Exq, Sidekiq, Celery, or Beanstalkd, and event-driven systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS, or Google Cloud Pub/Sub.
- Have experience with testing frameworks such as ExUnit, RSpec, Jest, or pytest, and proficiency with Git, GitHub or equivalent version control, and command-line environments.
- Have experience producing technical specifications, runbooks, and cross-team architecture documents, and explaining technical decisions across teams.
- Have experience managing releases, participating in on-call rotations, troubleshooting incidents, and owning service reliability.
- Experience with agentic development tools and workflows is an advantage; Elixir, hexagonal architecture, Domain-Driven Design, GraphQL schema design, financial or accounting systems, and gaming regulatory frameworks are beneficial.
Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and deliver scalable software solutions and features from conception to production.
- Build and optimize REST APIs, gRPC services, and SQL queries for player registration, authentication, identity verification, and fraud detection.
- Develop secure systems for OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, multi-factor authentication, biometrics, know-your-customer verification, and PII handling.
- Investigate production bottlenecks and performance regressions, conduct load testing and tracing, and improve scalability and reliability.
- Establish monitoring, alerting, and observability practices; participate in on-call rotations and own production services and release cycles.
- Design integrations among internal services, legacy platforms, and external identity, fraud-prevention, geolocation, and messaging providers.
- Develop data transformation processes and migration strategies that preserve data integrity and interoperability.
- Prepare technical proposals and architectural recommendations, and promote engineering standards through reviews, specifications, and mentorship.
- Evaluate AI-assisted and agentic development tools and practices to improve engineering productivity while maintaining quality and security.
