Requirements
- High school graduate or GED.
- 1-3 years of payment posting experience in a medical setting.
- Ability to read and understand Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
- Knowledge of third-party billing and collection requirements, including Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care.
- General knowledge of posting recoupments and reversals.
- Working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets.
- Experience with accounting and EFT/ERA setup is a plus.
- Mod Med/EMA practice management system experience is a plus.
- Professional communication and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Post payments and adjustments to patient accounts accurately and balance them to daily bank deposits.
- Contact patients, insurers, and third-party administrators to clarify information needed to post payments.
- Use calls, chat, email, and insurer websites to resolve payment and offset questions.
- Work recoupment accounts through resolution and research insurance overpayments and credits.
- Process patient refund requests and manage the refund register.
- Assist with monthly close and month-end balancing.
- Review remittance advices for accuracy and identify errors or questionable data.
- Document patient accounts in the billing system and provide assistance with patient billing calls.
- Coordinate with operational personnel to resolve issues and meet productivity requirements.
