Requirements
- High school graduate or GED.
- 1–3 years of payment posting experience in a medical setting.
- Ability to read and understand Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
- Knowledge of third-party billing and collection requirements, including Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care.
- General knowledge of posting recoupments and reversals.
- Working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets.
- Experience with accounting and EFT/ERA setup is a plus.
- ModMed/EMA practice management system experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Post payments and adjustments to patient accounts accurately and balance postings to the daily bank deposit.
- Contact patients, insurers, or third-party administrators when clarification is needed to post payments.
- Contact insurers by phone, chat, or email and check websites to resolve payment and offset questions.
- Work recoupment accounts through resolution and research and resolve insurance overpayments and credits.
- Process patient refund requests and manage the refund register.
- Assist with monthly close functions, including month-end balancing.
- Review remittance advice for accuracy and identify errors or questionable data.
- Document patient accounts in the billing system and provide professional assistance with patient billing calls.
