Requirements
- Bring strong commercial experience building and maintaining production systems with Python.
- Have experience leading an engineering team while remaining actively involved in technical design and development.
- Demonstrate ownership by driving problems from initial investigation through to a working production solution.
- Have experience collaborating with Product Managers and business stakeholders to translate business goals into technical delivery.
- Be able to organise team workloads, delegate effectively, support engineers, and maintain accountability for commitments.
- Have experience delivering backend automation, system integrations, or solutions that replace manual business processes.
- Bring practical experience integrating LLMs into applications or automated workflows.
- Have strong backend engineering fundamentals, including APIs, databases, data processing, and reliable error handling.
- Have experience with automated testing, Git, and production deployment practices.
- Communicate fluently in spoken and written English to lead discussions, clarify complex requirements, and challenge assumptions.
- Nice to have experience building an engineering team or delivery processes from scratch, interviewing and onboarding engineers, document processing, evaluating LLM outputs, or workflow orchestration and asynchronous processing.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical delivery of automation initiatives and take responsibility for solution quality and delivery outcomes.
- Work with the Product Manager and business stakeholders to understand workflows, clarify requirements, and define priorities.
- Translate complex business problems into technical plans and scoped tasks.
- Design and develop Python services, automated workflows, and integrations with existing systems and APIs.
- Apply LLM capabilities where they provide measurable value, using appropriate validation and human review.
- Establish engineering standards and development practices.
- Guide and mentor engineers, delegate responsibilities, and provide constructive feedback and code reviews.
- Identify risks, resolve blockers, and communicate progress and trade-offs.
- Ensure solutions include appropriate testing, monitoring, error handling, and production support.
