Requirements
- Have 6+ years of industry experience.
- Hold a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree, preferably in computer science, or have equivalent experience.
- Be fluent in English at a professional level.
- Have proficiency in one or more backend server languages, such as Java, Ruby, Go, or C++.
- Have experience with architectural patterns for high-scale distributed products or services, including well-designed APIs, data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
- Have experience working directly on build systems; hands-on Bazel experience is an advantage.
- Have experience working with large monorepos.
- Have extensive JVM experience.
- Be able to collaborate with cross-functional design, product, and data science partners.
- Be comfortable taking on large, open-ended projects and driving significant business impact.
Responsibilities
- Build the next-generation build system, using technologies such as Bazel.
- Integrate the build system with CI/CD tooling, including merge queues, code coverage, and integration testing.
- Improve the IntelliJ editor experience for backend developers.
- Shape technical strategy around developer experience, developer velocity, debuggability, resilience, reliability, and cost.
- Partner with engineering leaders across Airbnb teams to drive adoption of new capabilities.
- Contribute as a player-coach, supporting code quality, commitment to craft, and operational excellence.
