Requirements
- Have 7+ years of software engineering experience.
- Have experience as a tech lead, founding engineer, CTO of a small company, or the engineer holding a product together.
- Have shipped production code in at least three different technology stacks.
- Be comfortable learning and working in different stacks; the posting names .NET, Rails, Python, TypeScript, Oracle, and PHP.
- Have taken over a messy codebase and a discouraged team, and be able to describe what you did first.
- Use coding agents every day and be able to show your setup.
- Be able to work independently without daily oversight.
- Bonus: have been the first engineering leader at a company without an engineering leader.
- Bonus: have vertical or B2B SaaS experience, especially where the buyer and user differ.
- Bonus: have modernized a legacy codebase without a rewrite.
Responsibilities
- Pick up the company's stack, work in its codebase, and ship working software to customers.
- Modernize the software development lifecycle with CI, tests, staging, feature flags, deploys, and coding agents.
- Coach the engineers on the team.
- Work with the GM to set the roadmap and own trade-offs.
- Set up coding-agent workflows and teach the team to use them.
- Put AI features involving retrieval, tool use, evaluations, and guardrails into production.
