Requirements
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in a humanities field from a US school; a master’s degree or higher is preferred.
- Have at least one year of English teaching experience and/or experience working in a college-level Writing Center.
- Demonstrate academic excellence, such as a 3.5+ GPA.
- Have strong verbal skills and mastery of the English language.
- Be proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and G-Suites.
- Have reliable internet access and a workspace with minimal noise or distraction.
- Be available to work Tuesday through Thursday, 1:30 pm–9:30 pm CST, and Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 am–5:30 pm CST.
- Experience teaching at the college or community college level is an additional qualification.
- Understand classroom pedagogy and be able to create customized, engaging lesson plans using practical, real-world examples.
- Be able to work independently and in a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Instruct small groups of students in English core skills for long-term understanding and ACT and SAT readiness.
- Track student progress through Vanguard’s multi-phase curriculum.
- Engage students in individualized growth and improvement opportunities.
- Maintain and update student lesson schedules.
- Hold students accountable for assignments and communicate with them in a timely manner.
- Develop and creatively execute lesson plans and curriculum.
- Mentor middle and high school students through the college application process.
