Requirements
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in a humanities field, such as English, Creative Writing, Journalism, or Publishing, from a US school.
- Have at least 1 year of English teaching experience and/or experience working in a college-level Writing Center.
- Demonstrate academic excellence, such as a 3.5+ GPA.
- Demonstrate strong verbal skills and mastery of the English language.
- Be proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and G-Suites.
- Have access to a reliable internet connection.
- Have a workspace with minimal noise and distraction.
- Commit to the stated operating schedule: Tuesday–Thursday, 1:30 pm–9:30 pm CST, and Saturday–Sunday, 9:30 am–5:30 pm CST.
- A master’s degree or higher is preferred.
- Experience teaching at the college or community college level is preferred.
- A robust understanding of classroom pedagogy and the ability to create customized, engaging lesson plans using practical, real-world examples are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Teach small groups of students English core skills for long-term understanding and ACT and SAT college readiness.
- Track student progress through Vanguard’s multi-phase curriculum.
- Provide individualized growth and improvement opportunities for students.
- Maintain and update student lesson schedules.
- Hold students accountable for assignments and communicate with them in a timely manner.
- Model professionalism and strong organizational skills.
- Develop and creatively execute evolving lesson plans and curriculum.
- Mentor middle and high school students through the college application process.
