Requirements
- Have 8+ years building and operating software systems; 10+ years is preferred.
- Demonstrate a track record of leading significant work end to end.
- Bring principal-level engineering judgment and the ability to simplify complex problems, evaluate tradeoffs, and make production-ready decisions.
- Use AI development tools or coding agents fluently, while inspecting, testing, securing, and owning shipped work.
- Have strong experience with modern web and service development, especially Next.js, JavaScript or TypeScript, and Golang.
- Have strong data engineering and relational systems experience, including dbt, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, schema design, query performance, migrations, data quality, and data integrity.
- Bring adaptable experience with modern languages and frameworks; equivalent experience with Java, C#, Python, Ruby, Elixir, or Kotlin is welcome.
- Have a strong foundation in software architecture and secure development.
- Have experience with automated testing, continuous integration, deployment automation, observability, and containerization.
- Communicate technical intent clearly to engineers, stakeholders, and AI tools.
- Demonstrate technical leadership through influence, mentoring, and accountable delivery.
Responsibilities
- Own complex initiatives end to end, from understanding user needs and business outcomes through architecture, delivery, production support, and continuous improvement.
- Design and build solutions across Next.js applications, JavaScript and Golang services, APIs, MCP servers and integrations, data pipelines, and platform integrations.
- Use AI tools and coding agents to accelerate delivery, then review, test, secure, and harden shipped work.
- Engage across problem framing, analysis, design, implementation, integration, testing, deployment, observability, debugging, and support.
- Lead architecture reviews and code reviews, establish engineering standards, and raise quality, security, reliability, and maintainability.
- Partner with product, design, data, security, infrastructure, and business stakeholders to turn ambiguous needs into executable plans.
- Identify and reduce technical risks, including fragile integrations, poor data quality, security gaps, operational blind spots, and technical debt.
- Mentor engineers, shape the engineering roadmap, and help define how AHEAD builds and operates software.
