Requirements

  • Have 2+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • Have experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems.
  • Be proficient in Python or Kotlin.
  • Be familiar with distributed systems and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Redis/Valkey, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
  • Have production experience with Redis, Valkey, or a comparable in-memory store.
  • Understand replication, persistence, cluster mode, eviction, and failure modes.
  • Be able to reason about caching workloads, including hit rates, tail latency, hot keys, stampedes, and consistency with the source of truth.
  • Have experience automating infrastructure operations with Terraform, Kubernetes, and Python.
  • Have carried on-call for a stateful service and be able to take incidents from metrics to root cause and durable fix.
  • Write clear, well-tested, extensible code and be comfortable navigating large codebases, debugging others’ code, and reviewing code.

Responsibilities

  • Build and scale cache services on Redis and Valkey, owning cluster migrations end to end and delivering them in phases.
  • Plan capacity and shards, configure failover and replication, upgrade cache clusters, and stage rollouts with rollback paths.
  • Automate provisioning, configuration changes, and access through audited self-service workflows.
  • Define SLOs and build alerting for hot keys, memory pressure, and replication lag.
  • Use on-call findings to reduce keep-the-lights-on work and improve production operations.
  • Partner with client teams on key design, TTLs, consistency, and client timeouts.
  • Feed fleet data into the team roadmap and collaborate with product management, design, and analytics on decisions and trade-offs.
  • Create and monitor metrics, escalate operational issues, and support on-call efforts.
