Requirements
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in a humanities field, such as English, Creative Writing, Journalism, or Publishing, from a US school.
- Have at least one year of experience teaching English and/or working in a college-level Writing Center.
- Demonstrate academic excellence, such as a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Have strong verbal skills and mastery of the English language.
- Be proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and G-Suite.
- Have access to a reliable internet connection and a workspace with minimal noise or distraction.
- Commit to the stated operating schedule: Tuesday through Thursday, 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm CST, and Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm CST.
- A master’s degree or higher is preferred.
- Experience teaching at the college or community college level is also desirable.
- Understand classroom pedagogy and be able to create customized, engaging lesson plans using practical, real-world examples.
Responsibilities
- Instruct small groups of students in English core skills for long-term understanding and ACT and SAT exam preparation.
- Track students’ progress through the multi-phase curriculum and engage them in individualized growth and improvement opportunities.
- Maintain and update student lesson schedules and hold students accountable for assignments.
- Communicate with students in a timely manner and model professionalism and strong organizational skills.
- Develop and creatively execute lesson plans and curriculum.
- Mentor middle and high school students through the college application process.
