Requirements
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in a humanities field from a US school; a master’s degree or higher is preferred.
- Have at least 1 year of English teaching experience and/or experience working in a college-level Writing Center.
- Demonstrate academic excellence, such as a 3.5+ GPA.
- Have strong verbal skills and mastery of the English language.
- Be proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and G-Suites.
- Have access to a reliable internet connection and a workspace with minimal noise or distraction.
- Be available to work Tuesday through Thursday, 1:30 pm–9:30 pm CST, and Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 am–5:30 pm CST.
- Bring experience teaching at the college or community college level (ideal).
- Have an understanding of classroom pedagogy and the ability to create customized, engaging lesson plans using practical, real-world examples (ideal).
- Be able to work independently and in a team environment (ideal).
Responsibilities
- Instruct small groups of students in English core skills to support long-term understanding and performance on ACT and SAT college readiness exams.
- Track students’ progress through Vanguard’s multi-phase curriculum and provide individualized growth and improvement opportunities.
- Maintain and update student lesson schedules and hold students accountable for assignments.
- Model professionalism and organizational skills through timely student communication.
- Develop and creatively execute evolving lesson plans and curriculum.
- Mentor middle and high school students through the college application process.
