Requirements
- Have 5+ years of experience building and operating production backend systems.
- Bring deep PostgreSQL expertise, including schema design, query optimization, indexing, and migrations against live production data.
- Have strong backend development skills in Go, Node.js, Python, Java, or a comparable language.
- Have enough frontend expertise to build internal tools using React or a similar framework.
- Have experience designing and maintaining customer-facing APIs, including versioning, backward compatibility, and long-term integration support.
- Have hands-on cloud infrastructure experience, preferably with AWS, including storage, IAM, encryption, and cloud security primitives.
- Have experience with sensitive or regulated data where access control, retention, deletion, and data governance are technical requirements.
- Apply engineering judgment to correctness, idempotency, safe retries, failure handling, and production failure modes.
- Experience with multi-region or data-residency-constrained systems is a plus.
- Experience implementing multi-tenant isolation at the data layer is preferred.
- Familiarity with biometric privacy requirements such as BIPA or GDPR, audited environments such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001, or identity, authentication, account recovery, fraud prevention, fintech, or security products is beneficial.
Responsibilities
- Own the PostgreSQL data layer, including schema design, migrations, indexing, query performance, connection management, and production health.
- Design data models that make tenant isolation and data classification structural platform properties.
- Execute complex live-system migrations while avoiding downtime or data loss.
- Implement retention, deletion, and data minimization across derived data, replicas, caches, and backups.
- Build access controls, audit logging, and compliance evidence into platform systems.
- Design and maintain multi-region architecture for routing, storage, replication, failover, and data residency.
- Design and maintain public APIs, including versioning, deprecation, backward compatibility, and production capabilities.
- Operate and troubleshoot systems, investigating issues across services, data, and infrastructure.
- Develop internal tools, administrative interfaces, and operational dashboards.
- Improve reliability, observability, testing, and deployment practices; review code and contribute to engineering standards.
