Requirements
- Have at least four years of experience in medical lien resolution, reductions, or settlement negotiation at a personal injury firm, lien resolution company, or healthcare recovery vendor.
- Have managed at least five people in past roles, as direct or indirect reports.
- Demonstrate meaningful reductions on medical balances and liens, supported by results.
- Have working knowledge of Medicare Secondary Payer rules and conditional payment resolution.
- Have working knowledge of Florida Medicaid third-party recovery and the AHCA lien process.
- Be familiar with ERISA plan reimbursement claims and the distinction between self-funded and fully insured plans.
- Understand Florida PIP and the collateral source framework as they affect reimbursement exposure.
- Have a strong command of settlement math, including gross-to-net calculations, attorney fees and costs, pro rata allocation, common fund, and made-whole considerations.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally, including negotiating firmly with providers and explaining matters plainly to clients.
- Be proficient with legal case management software and spreadsheets.
- Be bilingual in spoken and written English and Spanish.
- Have a paralegal certificate or a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Have experience building or refining a reductions workflow from the ground up.
- Be familiar with Medicare Set-Aside considerations in third-party liability settlements.
Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and evaluate reductions and lien resolution specialists; assign files, manage workload, review files, and develop negotiation skills.
- Track and report aggregate reduction percentage, dollars saved, aging, and settlement-to-disbursement turnaround; identify and address performance gaps.
- Personally handle high-balance, complex, and escalated reductions when providers or plans refuse to move.
- Direct resolution of Medicare conditional payments and MSP obligations, Florida Medicaid/AHCA claims, ERISA and self-funded plan claims, TRICARE and VA claims, and hospital and provider liens.
- Negotiate letter of protection balances with treating providers and maintain required documentation.
- Analyze health insurance payments, PIP benefits, and other collateral sources to establish reimbursement exposure.
- Build working relationships and, where appropriate, standing reduction arrangements with providers, facilities, and lien resolution vendors.
- Provide trial and pre-suit attorneys with timely lien exposure figures to support settlement authority and client advice.
- Ensure clients understand closing statements and that disbursements are accurate, documented, and prompt.
- Standardize templates, escalation paths, and negotiation playbooks; recommend and help implement case management and workflow improvements.
