Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading engineers or engineering teams.
- Recent hands-on technical involvement within the last 1–2 years, such as production coding, reviewing pull requests, designing implementations, architecture planning, or troubleshooting and fixing software defects.
- Current hands-on experience with native Android development using Kotlin and modern Android practices.
- Experience with AOSP, customized Android ROMs, rooted or kiosk-mode Android devices, APK distribution, or Android OS upgrade programs.
- Experience with Android device-platform development beyond traditional consumer mobile applications.
- Experience with Java and JavaScript or TypeScript and React-based front-end development.
- Experience building software for connected, managed, or remotely deployed devices and understanding physical device-fleet operations.
- Experience leading engineers across multiple concurrent products, workstreams, or technical domains, and managing hiring, performance, coaching, and career development.
- Understanding of deployed-device constraints, including limited resources, intermittent connectivity, remote updates, and multiple hardware or OS generations.
- Experience supporting remote device fleets, including staged releases, fleet-health monitoring, remote troubleshooting, and update or rollback strategies.
- Experience with backend technologies supporting device fleets, such as Kotlin/JVM services, Node.js, serverless architectures, or similar microservice environments.
- Hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude, and experience encouraging or driving team adoption.
Responsibilities
- Own engineering outcomes across field operations tooling, exam-room technology, waiting-room displays, and back-office systems.
- Manage senior Engineering Leads and individual-contributor engineers, including hiring, performance, and career growth.
- Step into the Engineering Lead’s technical-direction role where a team needs it.
- Lead code reviews, contribute directly where needed, and guide teams on technical best practices.
- Champion AI-assisted and agentic engineering practices across team development and product capabilities.
- Coordinate priorities and dependencies across three or more concurrently active product areas.
- Contribute a device-fleet perspective to architecture discussions, including ARB and RFCs.
- Partner with Product and Design leads on execution across device product areas.
- Manage a blended team of full-time and contract engineers, onshore and offshore, and escalate staffing and resourcing needs.
