Requirements
- Have 8+ years of Commercial Underwriting experience.
- Have 5+ years of direct people management experience.
- Have a bachelor's degree in a related field or commensurate work experience.
- A master's degree in a related field is preferred.
- CPCU certification is preferred.
- Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU) certification is preferred.
- The listed certifications also include Certified Insurance Counselor and Certified Risk Manager.
Responsibilities
- Lead the regional Middle Market underwriting and sales organization, set business priorities, and monitor execution of new business, renewal, pricing, and profitability objectives.
- Lead underwriting managers and teams to achieve productivity, service, and portfolio results while maintaining underwriting discipline.
- Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines, authority, policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance standards.
- Use portfolio analytics, market intelligence, and business judgment to identify trends, prioritize opportunities, address performance gaps, and allocate resources.
- Establish and manage underwriting authority based on technical capability, experience, judgment, and performance.
- Support new business and renewal opportunities through agency and broker engagement, sales presentations, account strategy, and negotiation.
- Monitor regional financial and operating objectives and develop action plans to improve production, retention, pricing, profitability, and portfolio performance.
- Manage regional talent, expenses, forecasts, and variance explanations.
