Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 15 years of actuarial experience.
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA).
  • At least 3 years of prior people management experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Access.
  • Some programming skills in SQL, SAS, or VBA.
  • Ability to travel 20–30%.
  • Familiarity with state regulations and requirements for rate filings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process improvement and leverage technology solutions.
  • Work with business and shared service leaders on actuarial matters and help set the Actuarial group’s mid- to long-term strategy.
  • Lead, develop, and manage the team, including setting goals, providing feedback, and conducting performance appraisals.
  • Create and maintain profitability analyses and reviews for product lines.
  • Analyze program experience, recommend corrective actions, and support underwriters and senior management on new and existing programs.
  • Support due diligence for potential programs and provide actuarial guidance on experience rating and risk selection.
  • Develop rating support and memorandums for state Department of Insurance submissions, and manage responses to filing objections.
  • Develop underwriting guidelines, rating and portfolio management tools, and pricing recommendations for underwriters.
  • Assist with monthly reserve reviews and prepare recommendations for reserve changes.
