Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in the pet industry selling to retailers at store level.
- At least 3 years of experience selling through distributor sales reps.
- Thorough understanding of the pet industry, including pet distributors and retailers and how they operate.
- Knowledge of sales management in the retail channel, including market dynamics and strategies.
- Ability to develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with focused accounts.
- Strategic planning skills to maximize sales within the assigned territory.
- Understanding of how regional chains operate and experience collaborating with headquarters personnel.
- Self-motivated and self-directed, with attention to detail and strong follow-through.
- Flexibility and adaptability when launching new brands and products and adjusting sales strategies and tactics.
- Preferred: 5 years of experience selling through distributor sales reps and 5 years of pet-industry experience selling to retailers at store level.
Responsibilities
- Identify and acquire new stores within the assigned territory using sales tactics and strategies.
- Manage and grow focused territory accounts, including small chains, through headquarters relationships and joint business planning.
- Build and maintain distribution and store-level relationships, providing service and support.
- Meet and exceed sales targets, manage trade spend and travel budgets, and drive product adoption.
- Provide sales forecasts and reports to the sales management team.
- Monitor, adapt to, and report on market trends and competitive activity in the territory.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on order fulfillment and client satisfaction.
- Execute new product launches, promotions, and marketing programs.
- Attend distributor and retailer industry events to represent the brands, expand the network, and stay informed about industry trends.
