Requirements
- Have 5+ years of hands-on, post-grad, non-internship professional software development experience, with backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering as a core strength.
- Have 3+ years of industry experience with large-scale distributed systems, including highly scalable and reliable services.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency with Go and significant production experience using Go.
- Have experience designing and implementing maintainable APIs using technologies such as GraphQL, REST, HTTP, or gRPC.
- Have experience building platforms, developer tools, libraries, frameworks, or internal systems used by engineers.
- Have experience with infrastructure, Kubernetes, cloud providers, or systems supporting modern software development and delivery.
- Have hands-on experience using AI-powered developer tools and workflows.
- Have led large, ambiguous, high-impact projects involving cross-team collaboration, stakeholder alignment, and ownership from problem definition through delivery.
- Bring a user-focused mindset and empathy for internal engineering users, with a focus on usability, reliability, scalability, and quality.
- Have experience mentoring engineers and helping teams make pragmatic technical tradeoffs.
- Communicate effectively and influence technical direction across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Bonus: Experience in developer experience, developer productivity, internal platforms, or developer tooling.
- Bonus: Experience building or extending CI/CD systems, GitHub Enterprise Server or large-scale source control platforms, or Python.
- Bonus: Experience measuring platform or developer productivity through experimentation, rollouts, analytics, reliability metrics, or qualitative feedback.
Responsibilities
- Understand developer needs across Reddit Engineering, prototype solutions, and iterate based on feedback.
- Design and build backend systems, APIs, infrastructure, and platform capabilities that improve developer workflows.
- Build scalable and reliable systems for AI-powered workflows and core engineering systems.
- Lead developer tooling projects by writing and reviewing code and design documents, aligning stakeholders, and making technical tradeoffs.
- Build integrations with infrastructure, CI/CD, security, source control, deployment, and operational systems.
- Implement maintainable APIs, services, libraries, and platforms for internal developer tooling.
- Improve team tools, processes, and practices for reliability, usability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Mentor engineers and help shape a roadmap based on developer needs.
