Requirements
- Hold current nursing licensure in a Canadian province or territory; licensure in Ontario, Alberta, or British Columbia is an advantage.
- Have more than 3 years of experience working in clinical environments.
- Bring strong clinical knowledge, medical terminology knowledge, and clinical judgment.
- Understand confidentiality and appropriate handling of protected health information under applicable HIPAA, PHIPA, and PIPEDA requirements.
- Demonstrate professionalism in confidentiality, documentation, organization, and patient communication.
- Have awareness of multiple medical specialties and work effectively across clinical contexts.
- Have excellent verbal and written English, with fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Bring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Work effectively under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and operate independently and collaboratively.
- Have strong computer literacy, including experience with Gmail, Slack, Zoom, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Adobe, and EMR-related software.
- Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) qualification preferred.
- HIPAA compliance certification and a Medical Terminology Certificate are desirable.
Responsibilities
- Review incoming laboratory and other clinical results and identify urgent or emergent findings requiring physician review.
- Coordinate follow-up with physicians, Physician Assistants, Clinical Associates, and Patient Care Coordinators.
- Sort, organize, and file clinical results in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Monitor pharmacy faxes about prescription refills and clarification requests and coordinate appropriate follow-up.
- Assist with organizing and processing incoming patient referrals.
- Document clinical and administrative actions in patient charts.
- Communicate with patients about upcoming appointments and related care coordination needs.
- Support Physician Assistants, Clinical Associates, and referral staff as required.
- Participate in staff and medical meetings and contribute to team communication.
