Requirements
- Be currently enrolled at a U.S. law school.
- Have completed at least one year of law school before the internship commences.
- Be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship.
- Be able to receive academic credit or complete integrated coursework as part of a formal education program; the internship is for course credit only.
- Have excellent research skills, including internet searching and use of Westlaw, PACER, and other law-related databases.
- Have excellent oral and written communication skills, including via teleconferencing services.
- Demonstrate attention to detail, organization, time management, and adherence to deadlines.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Commit to 10, 15, or 20 hours per week for 12 consecutive weeks part-time, or 35 hours per week for 10 consecutive weeks full-time.
Responsibilities
- Draft memoranda, motions, and portions of briefs.
- Conduct legal and factual research concerning issues and cases in state courts around the country, with a focus on state supreme courts.
- Track cases and issues of interest to the State Supreme Court Initiative.
- Assist with civil rights and civil liberties litigation and research in state courts.
