Requirements
- Be currently matriculated in law school and have completed the 1L year, or be enrolled in an LLM program.
- Demonstrate excellent research skills, including internet and legal database research.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Have attention to detail and strong organizing and time-management skills.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Show initiative in seeing projects through to completion.
- Demonstrate commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, and racial justice.
- Demonstrate ability to conduct complex legal analysis and fact finding.
- Commit to 10, 15, or 20 hours per week for 12 consecutive weeks.
- Be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship.
- Preferred: demonstrate interest in voting rights work and familiarity with or previous experience working on voting rights issues.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support new and active litigation projects.
- Aid in drafting legal memoranda, pleadings, affidavits, motions, and briefs.
- Draft and edit public education and non-litigation advocacy materials.
- Provide support and assistance to ACLU affiliates and cooperating attorneys.
- Potentially work closely with clients and participate in outreach with impacted communities, discovery, and trial practice.
