Requirements
- Be enrolled at a U.S. law school.
- Be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship.
- Have excellent research skills, including internet and legal database research.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate attention to detail and strong organizing and time-management skills.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Show initiative in seeing projects through to completion.
- Commit to the ACLU's mission and work collaboratively and respectfully.
- The internship is part-time, 15 to 20 hours per week, for 12 consecutive weeks.
- The internship must be tied to formal education through integrated coursework or academic credit.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research.
- Draft legal writing, including memos and portions of court submissions.
- Conduct factual investigations.
- Support preparation for and participation in depositions, oral arguments, hearings, or trials.
- Assist with litigation and integrated advocacy across the Disability Rights Program's priority areas.
- Participate in litigation, advocacy, and internal meetings and discussions.
