Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in software engineering or architecture.
- Deep expertise in large-scale distributed systems, cloud architectures, and modern application platforms.
- Experience architecting regulated or high-reliability systems, preferably in medical, health technology, or similar domains.
- Mastery of microservices, event-driven systems, data pipelines, observability, DevOps/SRE practices, and cloud-native technologies.
- Ability to influence executive teams as a senior-level individual contributor without direct authority.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and in business-relevant terms.
- Experience partnering with cross-functional leaders in product, security, quality, regulatory, data science, and infrastructure.
- Preferred: experience with FDA, EU MDR, IEC 62304, HIPAA, and related regulatory frameworks for software in medical systems.
- Preferred: AI/ML platform architecture, model deployment, and clinical decision support software experience.
- Preferred: experience integrating architectures with medical devices, clinical systems, EHRs, or healthcare data standards such as FHIR and HL7.
- Preferred: leadership experience in organizations scaling complex multi-product software ecosystems.
Responsibilities
- Define the multiyear architecture strategy for product software systems across cloud, application, data, integration, and ML/AI infrastructure.
- Establish architectural principles, reference architectures, and guardrails for reliability, performance, interoperability, maintainability, and regulatory compliance.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption, modernization, and platform evolution.
- Lead cross-functional architecture forums and governance processes to promote consistent patterns, shared services, and disciplined decisions.
- Guide systems decomposition, API strategies, data models, and cloud architectures during product development.
- Review technical proposals, high-impact design decisions, and platform changes across R&D teams.
- Partner with product management and collaborate with security, privacy, regulatory, quality, and clinical teams on architecture and compliance.
- Provide architectural oversight throughout the SDLC, from concept and design through implementation and release.
- Mentor engineering leads and architects, and lead investigation and resolution of complex systemic issues.
