Requirements
- Be currently matriculated in an undergraduate program.
- Completion of the first year of college before the internship begins is preferred.
- Have excellent research skills, including internet and legal database research.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate attention to detail and strong organization and time-management skills.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Show initiative in seeing projects through to completion.
- Demonstrate commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, and racial justice.
- Be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship.
- Complete the internship for course credit through integrated coursework or academic credit.
- Commit to 10, 15, or 20 hours per week for 12 consecutive weeks for a part-time internship.
Responsibilities
- Conduct factual research and analysis on the Supreme Court docket.
- Conduct archival research on the ACLU’s Supreme Court history.
- Edit and produce internal memorandums and litigation case trackers.
- Support ACLU attorneys and paralegals with document management, memo production, and case tracking.
- Assist with legal research, argument development, and brief drafting.
- Assist with long-term planning and strategy projects.
