Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Ability to politely discuss patients’ financial responsibility.
- High level of proficiency with Windows-based computer programs.
- Ability to learn a medical billing system.
- Excellent time management skills to handle a high volume of incoming and outgoing calls.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Medical billing experience (preferred).
- Customer service experience (preferred).
- Nextgen experience (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Post payments accurately to patients’ accounts.
- Move through large volumes of calls daily.
- Determine the reason for the patient’s outstanding balance.
- Make necessary changes to the patients’ demographics and insurance information to obtain payment from the appropriate insurance company for both primary and secondary coverages.
- Make corrections as needed to the patient’s computer record so that future insurance claims and statements are accurate.
- Communicate patient information to assure confidentiality.
- Inform patient of financial responsibilities not covered by their insurance.
- Extend courtesy and politeness to all customers and exercise tact and understanding.
