Experience: 8+ years in software engineering, including 4+ years managing engineers directly.

8+ years of software engineering experience.
4+ years of direct engineering management experience.
Proven experience developing another leader or growing an engineer into a tech lead or EM role.
Track record of shipping and maintaining mission-critical software in production.
Demonstrated ability to own prioritization, estimation, and trade-off decisions.
Experience giving direct developmental feedback and managing underperformance.
Current or recent hands-on coding experience in at least one stack layer (Ruby, Python, React, iOS, or Android).
Experience with expert-generalist team models.
Hands-on experience directing AI agents through production changes.
Understanding of CI/CD, logging, monitoring, and telemetry.
Excellent written communication skills.

Own delivery across multiple squads by managing sprint shaping, prioritization, backlog grooming, and estimation.
Improve and account for team cycle time without compromising quality.
Stay technical by shipping production code off the critical path or reviewing architecture and design for squads managed through other managers.
Partner with Product Strategists to define scope and roadmap.
Manage and grow engineering managers, ensuring squad health and individual growth.
Plan long-term team capacity, skill mix, and onboarding strategies.
Set standards for AI-assisted development and operational excellence.
Identify and resolve systemic engineering bottlenecks.
