Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; an associate degree is preferred.
- Approximately one year of related experience in medical review, healthcare, pharmacy, or a comparable environment is preferred.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and documentation skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including a professional telephone presence and clear, effective email communication.
- Ability to identify concerns quickly and escalate issues appropriately.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate records.
- Resourceful, dependable, and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently after completing training.
- Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment when reviewing information and determining next steps.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with sensitive medical and client information.
Responsibilities
- Monitor assigned queues and follow up on requests for documentation needed to determine final drug-test result types.
- Contact physicians, dentists, pharmacists, emergency departments, and other healthcare professionals to verify prescriptions, medications, recent treatments, or authorized medical records.
- Track outstanding requests, answer calls, return messages, and follow up consistently until required information and documentation are obtained.
- Enter documentation accurately and promptly into the medical review system and update queues to reflect completed work.
- Review submitted medication and medical information against requests and identify discrepancies, unusual findings, or missing information for escalation.
- Develop an understanding of whether medications or medical information may provide a medically appropriate explanation for a positive test result.
- Release verified negative results and refer unresolved positive results to the appropriate medical review professional.
