Experience
Bachelor's degree with 8 years of experience or Master's degree with 6 years of experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program with 8+ years of experience, or Master of Science with 6+ years of experience.
  • Proficiency in mechanical system design per ASME B31 series and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Experience designing safety-related steel and concrete nuclear structures.
  • Experience designing pipe supports per ASME B31 requirements.
  • Experience with high-temperature springs.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams on advanced reactor design activities.
  • Strong technical communication skills for written and verbal interactions.
  • Ability to travel to the Materials and Fuels Complex/INL site as required.
  • Experience with shielding systems for nuclear reactor applications (Preferred).
  • Experience applying systems engineering and digital engineering tools (Preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers on the design of a novel advanced reactor.
  • Perform mechanical system design and evaluation and support the completion and implementation of assigned projects.
  • Design and evaluate applications involving high-temperature springs, safety-related steel and concrete nuclear structures, shielding systems, and pipe supports in accordance with ASME B31 requirements.
  • Document the design of electromechanical devices through controlled models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Decompose project objectives into defined and controlled design requirements using a systems engineering approach.
  • Oversee fabrication, construction, assembly, and procurement activities to ensure adherence to approved designs.
  • Develop, verify, and maintain configuration management for the technical baseline and assigned systems.
  • Lead experiment assembly and support installation, testing, and integrated safety analyses.
