Requirements
- Demonstrated hands-on ownership of a multi-tier token architecture at enterprise scale.
- Proven experience making consequential token architecture decisions involving naming conventions and tier structures.
- Expert-level visual design craft with a systems-oriented understanding of color, typography, spacing, iconography, and motion.
- Experience evolving a mature design language while balancing brand evolution and system consistency.
- Portfolio demonstrating high-quality visual product outcomes resulting from design-system and token work.
- Ability to establish and apply design principles to ambiguous visual challenges.
- Working knowledge of machine-readable design systems including W3C DTCG token formats and semantic naming.
- Familiarity with token tooling including Tokens Studio, Style Dictionary, and Figma Variables API.
- Staff-level autonomy, strategic thinking, and the ability to drive execution without close direction.
- Strong understanding of engineering constraints and ability to collaborate on implementation fidelity.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for technical and non-specialist stakeholders.
- Proven ability to serve as a visual quality bar while maintaining cross-functional relationships.
Responsibilities
- Own and evolve a three-tier design token architecture spanning global, semantic, and component-specific tokens.
- Communicate architectural decisions around token naming, tier boundaries, and long-term scalability.
- Lead safe token migration strategies and establish governance practices for consuming teams.
- Own the system-level visual language across color, typography, spacing, iconography, and motion.
- Serve as the final visual quality bar for the design system and resolve visual direction disagreements.
- Develop design principles and tenets to facilitate consistent visual decision-making.
- Lead initiatives to make the token layer machine-readable for AI coding tools, MCP integrations, and generative UI systems.
- Partner with product teams to facilitate effective system usage and identify evolution opportunities.
- Collaborate with engineers to maintain implementation fidelity and address technical constraints.
- Contribute to design-system governance including contribution reviews and policy enforcement.
